According to the State Secretary, the HUF 440 billion programme covers ten different areas, and the Government intends to make significant progress in the field of energy by 2025. The programme has been developed in close cooperation with chambers and professional organisations.
As part of the support package, HUF 270 billion has been earmarked for energy efficiency improvements in businesses. This will include funding for building insulation projects and investments to improve the energy efficiency of manufacturing processes. There will also be a special call for proposals for energy storage systems to harness solar energy outside the production season. According to the Secretary of State, a storage capacity equivalent to the Paks power plant unit is expected to be in place by next summer, although even larger capacity would be needed in the future.
Attila Steiner pointed out that solar systems in Hungary already produce enough energy to exceed the country's daily electricity needs. In addition, Hungary's electricity generation has one of the lowest carbon dioxide emissions in the European Union.
In addition to solar energy, the Jedlik Ányos programme also supports other renewable energy sources. By encouraging the production of biogas and biomethane, the country's dependence on natural gas can be reduced. There is also a strong focus on geothermal energy, with more than 110 applications for permits in this area, according to the Secretary of State. District heating companies will be given special opportunities to tender to modernise their systems and make them more environmentally friendly.
Funding will come partly from EU and partly from national sources. Some of the grants will be available in the form of grants, while others will be available as interest-free loans. The detailed conditions of the call for proposals will be made public shortly after a public consultation.
